One firefighter found himself in a reversed situation — he was the one calling for help on this hellish evening. After arriving on scene of a reported exposure to poisonous gas, the firefighter inadvertently entered the Fleeca Bank, which, at that time, was occupied by a masked man demanding money. With one civilian hostage inside, the offender forced the unarmed firefighter into the bank to provide first aid to the civilian hostage. After providing treatment, the firefighter was given the opportunity to leave. It was at this point he pushed his emergency button and requested police assistance immediately. It was not long before state and local police arrived and began negotiation. Fortunately, neither the civilian hostage or firefighter was seriously harmed by the end of the ordeal. The civilian was treated and released at the Mount Zonah Medical Center.
